I a planning a move from RI to SF in Spring 2009 and have targeted the MD as a preferred location. I am an active, single 50 yo male and plan to have my boat trucked and docked nearby. I am planning to rent and assume not cheap. I like the nearby jogging paths and upscale lifestyle.
Questions: Safe? local weather pattern? Access to public transportation? Any other neighborhood options?.....Pacific Heights etc.
Thanks.

The Marina sounds like a perfect fit for you.

I agree. And you're right - this won't be cheap. The weather is usually cool with fog and some wind. The SF muni bus system is extensive and will take most everywhere in SF.

San Francisco's Marina Green and the Presidio Park

Another neighborhood to check out is North Beach, North Beach - Little Italy - San Francisco

Perhaps your boat is liveaboard size. Pier 39 still has some liveaboard slips available I think. Uber-upscale

About as safe as upscale parts of Manhattan/LA's Westside/Chic....i.e., about as safe as most suburbs anywhere...

Weather is classic SF....land of micro-climates...moderate eve/early AM fog; winds off Bay

May want to also consider CowHollow, RussianHill and PacHts...

Marina itself is a bit of a post-college, <25yo crowd, which can be both good and bad....

CowHollow/RussianHill are slightly up the hill from Marina...more of a later 20-30s crowd...

PacHts has quite a few rentals, but it's primarily the land of >>$10MM tear-down houses, often bought by <50yo SiliconValley singles and young families; many of the larger PacHts houses are also often-empty wkend houses of affluent who primarily live in SiliconValley suburbs or in NYC/LA, etc....perhaps a mix of 40-60+yo affluent singles, esp in the upscale apt bldgs up on the hills...
