I don't think there are many numbers to "fix," as the locals here have already stated. Ask anyone who rides BART regularly, and they'll say it's pretty safe - so what is there to hide??

FYI, you can obtain statistics by contacting them directly: http://www.bart.gov/about/police/contact.aspx

I'm a single lady who took Bart for years to and from A's games to the Fremont station, and I also never saw or experienced any violence. After games back then though there weren't many riders, so maybe that's a clue why!

Thanks!
If I am alone and it is late, I ride in the first car to be near the train operator or in a car that is full, but never in an empty car. Most cars have cameras as a deterrent.

I've always found the BART to be quite safe. It's not the NYC Subway or the London Tube.

What time does the BART run until. Maybe thats why theres not much crime cause it stops. Why doesn't the BART run all night damn it! I'm gonna move to Oakland next year and thats gonna suck if I can't get home after a late night in SF.
Also, a lil off topic but the MTA in NYC with a daily ridership of 4 million has only about 400- 500 robberies. And theye are open 24 hrs.

The system stops at 12:00. So the trains that are on the tracks at that point finish their route, but there are no new departures after midnight. They tend to run 24 hour service for special events like New Year's Eve though.

Isn't kinda dumb that the bars close at 2am and the trains stop at 12pm? Doesn't that kinda encourage drunk driving or paying $40 to go back to Oakland from the city.
What if you work at a restaurant or bar in the city and you get out at 12 or 1pm and live in Oakland. How does one get home besides car or taxi?

There are "owl" buses that supplant most of the BART service in the East Bay. I think the only stations you can't get to are the ones north of Concord.

Sounds to me like they want to make it difficult for service industry workers and night life revelers of Oakland. could it possibly be a form of dicrimination?

If anything, it's more difficult for people like me living on the peninsula. There is NOTHING after midnight unless you live in a very specific area along the SamTrans 397 line.

I think it's ridiculous that Brisbane, a town of 3,000 people, has 24/7 bus service to SF as well as the airport. Meanwhile, I live near El Camino in South San Francisco, and I can only get to San Francisco on SamTrans during weekday commute hours, and ALL service stops from midnight to 5 am.
