I was just reading this article...

Mountain lion seen running across San Mateo street - Inside Bay Area

... and was wondering if anyone here has seen one? I've spent a lot of time in the peninsula parks and open spaces and have never seen one or even noticed signs of one. I saw two when I lived in Southern California. I know it's rare to see one, just interested in any stories people may have.

I saw a black one at Anderson County Park in Morgan Hill. It was about a quarter-mile off of the path at the end of Holiday Drive, just walking around in the middle of the day. That was about 10 years ago. There have always been mountain lions around.

A couple of years ago I was about to go get in the hot tub when I heard the howl of a mountain lion close by. I put my flip flops on and grabbed a small flashlight and started up the rise behind my house. The flashlight caught the eyes of the cat and I realized I was standing naked 50 feet from the safety of the house. LOL I backed down the hill very slowly.

I've heard lots of stories of sightings (from people I know in SM County), so they are there! Guess that's what we get for ruining their land...
