Ha! I didn't even read the entry -- I just linked it. Now I have to go back and read it...

That seems a bit judgmental, doesn't it? I guess it's appropriate if you're using the term in the derogatory manner, but otherwise that is a bit unfair... just because someone technically fits into the yuppie category, that doesn't mean they are materialistic and so forth. My family has quite a few "yuppies," and they are exactly the opposite of those pre-conceived notions.

To quote that article: "Stereotyping always winds up being derogatory. It doesn't matter whether you are trying to advertise to farmers, Hispanics or Yuppies, no one likes to be neatly lumped into some group".

Maybe in the city of San Francisco. I am sure there are some people in SF who would not make that correlation though.

I personally dont have any problem with them.I'm striving to be successful and get money just like they are. Some people on this forum are lightweight yuppies themselves and they dont even know it. LOL.

Upscale parts of any desirable city are full of "yuppies"

Lots of "socialists" in parts of SF and PaloAlto....the really amusing ones are the wealthy tech guys who drive a Prius; often are hygiene-challenged; but also own a $50MM+, gas-guzzling private plane to head to their more hedonistic wkend house in LA

The essence of the "yuppie" pejorative is BORING. Sometimes yuppies think they are terribly interesting. This is a common issue in SF. They are not.

Also, you must be foreign. This term is not exactly new.
