Hi everyone. I've been looking at houses in Hayward and like other posters, chose the city for commuting reasons and affordability. I've seen a few properties around Chabot that I really liked and during the day, it was pretty nice and quiet. Have not gone back and checked at night just yet. Can anyone give their thoughts/opinions? It'd be greatly appreciated. (sorry for any spelling errors/typos if I missed them) Thanks!

I think along depot is pretty safe. Towards the industrial part. But I just drive through from Clawiter so I think others may have a clearer opinion. Not sure about the other side of Hesperian.

Shouldn't have any trouble in the area between Southland Mall and Depot Road. The homes tend to hold value because of the proximity to the College and easy commute across the Bay.

Most of the home are circa 1960 with a few newer mini division scattered around.

Friends say the problem areas are around Tennyson.

The area west of Chabot is fine. I even think the areas east of Chabot near Calaroga are okay. The real sketchy areas of this part of Hayward are Longwood (further up Hesperian across from the Hayward Airport), the neighborhoods along A Street near 880 (cross streets Royal, South Garden, etc.) Also Tennyson Road (east of I-880) is bad.

Overall, you are okay. Not much to do in the area. However, very easy access to San Mateo Bridge. Oakland, Fremont, Tri-Valley within 30 minutes. SF is BARTable. Hope this helps...
