Ok so I'm looking to move out into another neighborhood around June when my lease with my school housing ends. I'm paying 900+ a month for a 3BDR with 5 other people. I live currently in a Western Addition apartment near the Fillmore.

In June, three friends and I discussed moving into a 2BDR in another part of the city. We go to school downtown but we don't desire living near our school, it's near the Tenderloin.

Any ideas where we can live in a safe neighborhood, and rent won't cost us more than 2400 a month?

So far I'm thinking Inner/Outer Sunset as one.

Sunset is a good choice but so is the Richmond as far as bang for your buck. I lived in the outer Richmond and I loved it.

Yeah I heard good stuff about the Richmond District. I've been living here since April but I still wanted some expert advice from older residents.

How's the commute to downtown? I have to get off around the Civic Center.
If I had class at 8, how early do I want to get on the buses?

Well if you take a regular 38 Geary it takes forever...it can take an hour to get downtown. There is a 38 express which is faster...but is also usually packed to the gills. I would still say get on the bus at 7 to CYB.

They've been talking about creating a special commuter lane on Geary for the bus (to make it faster) but don't hold yer breath for that to happen anytime soon from what I've heard.

CYB?

What about the 31, and 5? Do they get packed early too? (5 would actually be best, it has a stop in front of my school)

Actually I already take the 5 from here so I'd probably get a spot if I got on so much sooner in the richmond district. ;P

And yeah, I wouldn't hold my breathe for them to start on that lane anytime soon. The only thing that worry me about commuting to richmond would be getting home after any nighttime class. I would hate to wait outside after 10 waiting for a 5, 31, or 38. I don't like the 5 after 10, it's seedy where I'd have to wait and get on. I usually have to take a longer route by going MUNI metro and then catching a 22 by the Church station.

I was surprised to learn that you can walk from Oceanview Terrace, in Ingleside, to Daly City BART in about five minutes. That might be an idea.
