I really, really want to go to Berkeley for Urban Planning. Sad thing is, I probably just can't get in. I could go to USC probably, which is a good Urban Planning school, but the Southern Cal life just isn't the life for me, even if it's brief. The bad thing is, I don't want to go to a state college (like San Jose State), and I just don't know anything else up there, besides obviously Stanford which is also an obvious "no."

UC Davis outside of Sacramento is a very good school. Also look into UC Santa Cruz, those are probably the two best pulic schools in northern california besides berkeley.

As far as private schools go, The main ones that pop into my mid would be USF(University of San Francisco), Saint Mary's in Moraga, Santa Clara, and Pacific.

I'm an alum of University of the Pacific, which is very good but in a crappy town (Stockton), and San Jose State, which you already vetoed... it's a very respectable school, though! You should also consider USF, UCSF, UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara Univ, UC Davis, and Cal Poly SLO (almost feels like NoCal there). I'm not sure if they all have your desired major, but that should be easy to find out.
