I possibly will be working at San Quentin. I would like to live in San Francisco,or Berkeley, preferably San Francisco. How would the commute be? I want to be near public trans, vegetarian restaurants, and dog friendly areas as I will be bringing my two dogs (no kids, no husband). Any ideas on where the best place for me to be. I don't mind a 30 minute commute anything more is too long.

There is public bus service from San Francisco to Marin but I am not sure if anything goes directly to San Quentin. No offence, but other than you and other workers, commuting to and fro from a prison really isn't what's done. LOL!

If you look to Berkeley, I would imagine you would need a car to cross the Richmond bridge to get to Marin.

It's not easy to find housing in Berkeley. College kids pretty much eat up the housing especially since you have pets.

Personally, I would try further north say, Novato or San Rafael. You would need a car though.

Good luck!

Shanny

I think there is a bus stop that stops not too far from the prison so you might be able to take a bus there. San Quentin is a physical city/town that houses most of the guards and staff. Problem with commuting to SQ is that going back into the city will cost you 5$ each time.

from SF the commute would be cake, you are entirely against the rush hour. It's also very convenient to come from Berkeley as the Richmond- San Rafael bridge drops you right at San Quentin.
