My husband, 2 dogs, and I will be relocating to San Fran very soon and need a place to live while we try to sell our house in NH. We have been considering renting on Treasure Island but I just found out they only allow 1 pet per unit. (What a stupid rule! After owning for several years I've forgotten what a pain it can be to be a renter.)

It will actually make more sense for us to be between S. San Fran. and Palo Alto, as that is where my husband will be working. Can anyone recommend any pet friendly rentals in that area? Even the east bay would work if is a great place...

Oh, and anyone want to buy/rent a house in NH?

Thanks!

Laurie

My family with two dogs moved from Massachusetts in October and have no regrets especially while hearing the news of the weather back east.
While looking to buy a house we have established temporary housing in Alameda on Shoreline Drive which has a few pet friendly apartment complexes. You may want to explore that as an option.
I am glad to help out as so many posts have assisted us in this relocation.
Good luck

I'd suggest looking on Craigslist - you can specify that you only want to see apartments that allow cats or dogs. That's how we found the two apartments we've lived in in San Francisco over the past five years. I have cats, which are admittedly easier to find homes for than dogs, but I'm sure there are some dog-tolerant landlords out there.

The Avalon communities are very pet-friendly, and have complexes all over the Peninsula... you might also try Lake Pines in San Mateo, which I considered when I thought about moving to that area (I have a dog & 2 cats). Aside from that, craigslist is definitely a good way to go!

And here are their pet policies: Avalon Communities is Pet Friendly (http://www.avaloncommunities.com/pet.asp - broken link)
The other place I mentioned: Lake Pines Apartments for Rent in San Mateo, CA - UDR

Thanks for all the suggestions! We've rented a place at Archstone San Mateo. I think all the Archstone properties are pet friendly, you just have to be on the 1st floor if your dogs are over 50lbs.
