My husband may be doing a residency at UCSF and we have an 8 year old and 11 year old. Where is an affordable place we can live with good schools the closest to UCSF? Is it Mill Valley?

that depends on your definition of "close" to UCSF. Mill Valley is about 30 (45 to an hour in traffic ) and across the Golden Gate bridge. It is a FAB city, but that depends on how "close" you want to be to UCSF. AND your definition of afforadable. Housing is pretty pricey out there.

more details - UCSF family
Google maps says houses at the south end of Mill Valley are 19 min from UCSF, 25 in traffic. That's about the limit we can go, I think. 500-800K would be doable for us, or an equivalent rent.

Honestly I think Mill Valley will be pushing your budget, at least if youd rather stay toward the end of it. and it is NOT 25 mins in traffic. Trust me.
You can actually perhaps find a place in the Sunset district in the city. Not quite sure how the prices are doing out here right now though, as I rent.
