Oakland is increasingly becoming more of a better deal than San Francisco.

- Less pretentiousness
- Genuine and passionate art community
- Great dining options
- Much more affordable housing
- Real diversity and less segregation
- Friendlier residents
- Sunny, beautiful weather

The list goes on and on. I used to down on Oakland quite a bit, but I've realized how much of great place it actually is. Love the lake Merritt area where I now live.

Glad to hear you gave Oakland a chance and found it was better than you expected.

It's not an increasingly better deal, it's always been better. You just discovered it.

Oakland is nice, but this is a bit dramatic

Both cities have its' crimes and nice areas. But it's still personal opinion and where your work is located. And of course money is always a factor.

BayDude, honest question: have you lived in San Francisco? If so, where and for how long?

Just curious.

No not at all.

Oakland is a better deal for the average person. Hell even for the rich. The people are on average much friendlier. Sf is bit too snobby and standoffish for most people.

I've never lived in sf but I'm a bay area native and visited sf countless times over the course of my life.
