Hi everyone!

I've been trying to move up the peninsula for the past six months now due to my new job in San Francisco.

I'm about to rent a 2BR/2BA place at Scotch Hollow in San Mateo for right around $1600. I'm a little nervous about renting there due to the negative ratings on apartmentratings.com

If not Scotch Hollow, are there any specific recommendations for other apartments in the San Mateo area?

Are there any current residents of this apartment that can give me an honest opinion about how it is to live there?

Please let me know, your comments would be greatly greatly appreciated!!! I'm going to sign a year lease, and want to make an informed decision.

Thank you!

I would normally say don't pay any heed to Apartmentratings, but that's an awful lot of really negative reviews. That's worse than the reviews that turned me off from Northpark in Burlingame. Big apartment buildings are always hit or miss, in this economy you don't have to settle for something less than ideal in a not that great area like Scotchollow. Be critical and do your homework.

Thanks for the advice. I went to go see the apartment first-hand, and it seemed fine. I think I may be better off just staying in the South Bay where rent and living costs seem to be cheaper than up the peninsula (although the commute is long...a little more than 1.7 hours each way).
