I need to rent a car for a few days to look for an apartment in the city. The garage in the hotel i stay at is very expensive, is there a parking garage near union square reasonable priced and safe where i can park overnight for a few days? TIA.

I usually park in the Ellis O'Farrell lot or the lot under portsmouth square, but neither of them are all that affordable. Unfortunately I do not know of anything near Union Square that is.

I always park at the Sutter. St/Bush garage. I've always found it to be fairly reasonable on an hourly basis, but overnight might be a totally different story..I'm sure you can find their rates online somewhere.

The lot under Portsmouth Square is only $26/night which is a lot cheaper than some of the hotels. There's no in and out privileges though.

The problem is that the garages around Union Square do not have in and out privileges.

Parking Information for Union Square

Depending on the neighborhood you are looking at apartments in, a car may be an impediment to your search since you will also have to search for parking when you arrive at your destination.

You could also transfer to a motel on Lombard St. in the Marina area with free parking.
