I have a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in business fields, and my wife-to-be will soon finish her professional degree in dietetics. We're looking to be self-employed which will require a moderate population in a growing area, but both of us also earn income from Internet-based businesses. The county Antioch is in appears to have about 1 million people, and that's more-than enough.

What advice can you give us about cost of living in Antioch/surrounding area? Is it economically healthy(-ish) and growing? How is the small business scene? Does it have some access to nature (including the bays)?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
NO Way... NO how. Antioch is a scary scary place.

The only good thing about Antioch is the cheap housing, you'll have to put up with high crime, section 8 people and a bastard of a commute if you are heading west during rush hour. Brentwood is slightly better deal regarding crime, but you'll still have the traffic on HW4.

Not somewhere I'd like to end up as newlyweds for a zillion reasons -- scary and ugly with lots of traffic. The one attraction MIGHT be the pretty hills surrounding the area, but just say NO!
