How did this happen?

4 Oakland Officers Fatally Shot, Gunman Dead (http://cbs5.com/local/shooting.officer.oakland.2.964784.html?tsp=1 - broken link)

Quote:
CBS 5 has learned that four officers are dead, along with a suspect after a traffic stop led to a massive manhunt in the streets of East Oakland.

It all began with the the fatal shooting of two officers during a traffic stop near 73rd and Hillside Streets, around 1 p.m. Saturday. The gunmen fled and police closed off the surrounding streets to traffic while dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies participated in an intense search for the suspects.

Hate to say this, but in the grand scheme of things, looks to me like payback is brewing for Oscar G.

That is an awful thing to say. You should be ashamed.

If it was payback, looks like it turned into a suicide mission, though.

Looks like someone with a gun who REALLY didn't want to get busted got pulled over by a couple of cops and things progressed from there.

The comment relating this to the BART killing is moronic.

Maybe I should, but as a black man who's had his life put on the line a couple of times at the hands of trigger-happy cops, I can't help but see it this way.

Sucks to see a city I enjoyed being stationed in for 3 yrs take a turn like this in social relations - had a feeling it was coming though.

I've looked at some crime maps over there and it has got to be worse than Fallujah.

You should still be ashamed. That attitude sucks. This from a Black woman, with a Black husband, father, cousins and friends.

One terrible criminal off the streets, but at too high a price.. thoughts go out to the officers' families. This is just utterly senseless.

Just putting it all into perspective. It's a real tension out there, and people are fed up. When you have a group of folks at the scene shouting "payback" you know there are real issues in the community mindset when it comes to authority. Unfortunately, this incident will put officers even further on edge than they already are, and more innocent black men will die in their hands, and more officers will die by the hands of the frustrated and desperate. And so the cycle continues.
