My wife and I were thinking of taking a trip out there. I happen to be a big supporter of President Bush. I worked for him in 2000 and 2004, and I like to sport cowboy boots, a ten-gallon hat, jeans, and think leather belt with a large "W" for a belt buckle. It's just what I like to wear. It feels very comfortable. Although I am a proud supporter, I do not wear this outfit to taunt anyone. I fancy myself as a cowboy of sorts, and I feel comfortable in the boots.

Everybody is telling me San Franciscans will be in my face if I walk down the street wearing that kind of apparel. I say I won't.

Who is right?

Well I look according to My Better Half half Biker, half Hawaiian Tourist, and never get a second look in the City. Just smile and go with the flow, and in no time You'll be chatting it up with those Frisco city Folk. And just FYI I'm a Native Texan, Corpus Christi born.

I'm a bit cowboyed up today but admittedly I am not working in the city at the moment. If I were going into the city I would not cowboy up. Think "wannabe SoHo NYC" or "wannabe Paris" - you'll get the idea. Not only is it quite lib, but also, sometime during the 70s, most people in town stopped cowboying up. In fact, in the city itself, that process was well underway earlier - probably before my time, maybe just after WW2. Took awhile for cowboying up to pass away in the burbs, definitely early 70s, other than the odd hold out in the good old "wild west" days in Silicon Valley (prior to it being flooded by carpet baggers from back east during the 80s). Now, cowboying up is mostly seen in places like Half Moon Bay, in the San Antonio Valley (east of Mt. Hamilton), or well north in the Far North Bay.

I think you will fit in for the most part because strange clothing is not uncommon in San Francisco. If you mention being a fan of President Bush people will likely be rude to you or totally ignore you.

San Francisco is a great town with a lot to see. We don't all have to be alike to enjoy the place. If you want to have a good political back and forth about W, etc. I'm sure many would be up for it and those of us who feel strongly would be happy to get a little Molly Ivins on ya, but I say come on over.

I agree with happ. I don't think people will look down on you because of what you wear. However, if you openly advertise your love for President Bush the folks probably won't be lining up to be your friends. As far as being as liberal as people say, I feel people exaggerate the "liberal-ness" of SF. I actually know quite a few fiscal conservatives and libertarians in the city.

No one will care. As long as it coordinates.

They'll probably just think you're a dimly-lit bulb. There is a high mentally-unstable population in SF.

SF liberal? Wow, that is the understatement of the year..Can you do the Cowboy thing? sure, as has been said, you might see anything in the bay area, especially in San Francisco. would I talk politics? Unless you are ready for a debate like no other, I don't think I would bring the subject up..I know my views sorta match yours and I would not say much to people in SF.

Have a great time in a truely magnificant and beautiful city.

Nita

Wear what you want. In a city like S.F. you will see all kinds. Don't feel bad because these people are suppose to be so OPEN MINDED so they will accept everybody regardless of race, sexual origin or POLITICAL VIEWS.

Or am I wrong?
