Somebody told me that San Francisco is a clothing optional city, and that people can walk the streets nude and nobody will think anything of it. Is this true? I know people do it during various events, but is walking the streets nude minding your own business legal? I might be taking a trip there one of these days and I want to know if I can take an evening stroll in the buff.

Um, no... the only "clothing optional" part of San Francisco I know about is Baker Beach, and even there it's only "tolerated" and not actually legal. We are laid-back in SF, but not THAT laid-back!

there actually is one other part of the city that doesnt mind
drive down third street and then up the hill to harbour road. you will be very popular there
but there is one rule: when people approach you and ask where you are from, you must say west point, or you will be arrested
trust me on this one

Well -- there is the Bay To Breakers run -- some people think of it as clothing optional...

But for the most part it's too cold to run around in your birthday suit...

This is absolutely not normal in SF.

However.................I have on more than one occasion seen a naked mentally challenged person in DT SF. Off the top of my head, I was driving down Market near First(about 10 years ago) and this young man walks out of nowhere with a blanket and tosses the blanket to reveal that he was totally nude-then he starts yelling something. The police soon gave chase and Im sure they eventually subdued him.

Another time was about a year ago. I was at the Farmers Market over at UN Plaza and this man is taking a bath in the fountain. Very akward.

If I get arrested, Ill just tell the police "I didn't know I was supposed to wear clothes". Think that will get me off?
