Are you nuts? Only kidding, but right now I can't imagine anyone wanting to move to Ca or to another place in CA. Anytime, even in a good economy just picking up and moving isn't the best, but certainly now it is a horrible thing to even think about. I do wonder if you are for real or just having fun cause you have nothing better to do?

I think you'd be better off in Northern cities for this... Baltimore, Philly,...

Cheaper rent, can find a job and write.

I understand, not everybody wants careers, and actually shuns them or the typical american dream

I would have a few months cash and at least a friend to stay with to get on your feet. I certainly wouldn't move there with NOTHING...this isn't the 60s. SF has changed and people aren't so quick to help you out.

What are you doing now? Is it *that* bad? If you don't have a job currently, then take a trip and have at it.

I would have some gear like a tent or something though. I would also bring some bread pb jelly, rice and beans with you... and if you have to pay and don't have a place to stay, get a hostel, or sleep outside the city in a car for awhile.

I know several people who work retail and live in SF though with roommates... artist/writer type.

I am doing the same thing... but not to try to cut it out in SF proper... and I have a lot more cash than you, educated, high skilled worker, and a place to stay and I am still pretty "iffy".
