DC easily. I'm in IT and I got much higher offers in DC than SF. And not only higher offers, but also many more job offers.

CA is near the bottom right now in terms of most economic indicators. Furthermore, the fact that many who live here are in denial about it makes resolution highly unlikely. People and businesses are voting with their meager capital and their feet and they are not choosing CA unless they are dirt poor and living in a third world hell hole, or, are simply unaware that the pre 1990s CA is kaput and may never come back.

If you are going to be making $80K/year, trust me you'll enjoy the bay area.
Find a cheap starter place for 6 month lease and work and explore in the Bay Area. It's better to be here and drive around to look at the cities to find what you are looking for.

$80K/year you'll be BETTER than fine.

80k? if job opp is a good one you should go for it, espec if you are young; if job opp is mediocre then maybe not. only you can decide on that

economy here ain't gonna be lousy forever! yeah now it's doom and gloom but you gotta work somewhere...

hell at your age you can always head to a cheaper locale later

Yes of course the OP can survive on 80K here. That is somewhat beside the point. The OP currently has the same salary in a less expensive place. So the question is, is it worth it for the OP to purposely take a hit in standard of living in order to come here? Seems like it's not such an obvious choice to me. If I were the OP, I would think very seriously and consider what I'd be giving up in terms of purchasing power, before taking the big dive. Especially with the economic decline here still gathering steam.
