Aloha all...I'm in San Francisco on vacation with family, but my boyfriend and I will be on our own for two days this Wednesday and Thursday.

We would appreciate suggestions for things to do that don't involve the Embarcadero (the family will be sure we spend time there!)....We would love suggestions for good local bands, if there are any events happening on those nights.

Mahalo (thanks) in advance!

Cynthia

Hi Cynthia

Wow...where to begin? SF is such an amazing city. Dining is a luxurious experience...there are more restaurants than people per capita.
Fisherman's wharf is a must as is Pier 39 and China town.
Golden Park would be the west coast version of Central park.
How about a ride on the cable cars while munching on some Ghiradelli chocolate?
If you want to shop, downtown has very exclusive stores
Hope this helps, after all you only have 2 days!

The Cable Car Museum (located not from Chinatown), the Japanese Tea Garden, the Golden Gate Bridge & the "crooked section" of Lombard Street. For a great view of the city you can try either Coit Tower, the glass elevator on the side of the Fairmont Hotel or have a drink at the rotating bar on top of the Marriott Hotel in the Financial District.

Thanks for the suggestions!

We visited Ghiradelli Square on the first day with the family--apparently a family tradition!

Skip Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, they are way overcrowded and the stuff sold there is overpriced and not really useful. If you have to go to one to relieve your shopping urges, pick Pier 39, since seals live around there and can be seen at all hours of the day. If you're into museums, there are tons in the SoMa (South of Market St) area. My personal favorite is MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). You should visit Golden Gate Park, home to the Japanese Tea Garden, the beautiful Stow Lake, California Acadamy of Sciences (one of my favorite SF attractions), and beautiful walking paths.
