hi people

I am from switzerland and will be travelling to SF in a few weeks... ill be staying 3 nights in a cheaper motel on 415 o`farrell street. Well after booking the motel , i have read that its in the tenderloins.

Well after that, i searched the net for some infos on the tenderloins and found some disturbing things about it...

The last time ive been to SF was like ten years ago with my parents and i was like 12 years old. We had a hotel somewhere in the Nobhill. One evening we were walking up a hill and weve got lost somewhere and walked into a very bad street with hookers, drug addicts.

Is it really that bad?Can someone tell me wich streets to avoid?

We will sightsee SF by foot, or BART, so we dont have any problems with parking a car somewhere.

I would really appreciate your guys help. Am i beeing paranoid?

thanx in advance. (and sorry for the bad grammar)

Greets NormTNC

That block of O'Farrell isn't too bad since it's closer to Union Square. South and west gets a bit dicier, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Enjoy your stay!

You're probably close enough to Union Square so that you should be fine, though as the previous poster noted, you should probably avoid going south or west in the evenings.

However, the hotel where you will be staying gets some less than stellar reviews:

There are some great restaurants, many of them hole in the walls joints that don’t look too special on the outside but make great tasting food. The area is pretty shady with a good amount of druggies and hookers lurking around but you should be ok for the most part. Most of the killings and beatings happen amongst individuals who either know each other or are both on drugs.

Just don't give anyone money, and you'll be fine... Also, take cabs after dark if you're unsure (of directions) or uneasy. Have fun!
