I have had good food in LA, SF and Las Vegas but...nothing compares to NYC food in the US, where they fly in fresh ingredients from around the world to get the actual regional quality and taste.

flown from around the world? LOL

California grows about HALF of the nation's produce. Trust me. We win in the fresh ingredients comparison.

I lived in the Upper West Side and their food is awesome. deserving of all its acclaim.

But overall the Bay Area is better imo. I think it has to do with the standards of the people who live here. Our food expectations are just higher.

It is not up to par with some of the other major cities.
Actually we can look for polls taken by actual magazines.

And generally speaking, these days NY, SF and Chicago are considered the culinary capitals of the US. New Orleans and Las Vegas usually rank really high as well.

This is an article on Epicurious about SFs food scene

San Francisco, which may be the ultimate American food town (or one of them), also provides the happy proof that our whole culinary culture probably will survive the nonstop [economic] crash.

Here's an article that came out last month about what's happening in Oakland's food scene...

Local Fresh ingredients are great, but that doesn't make an Italian, Greek or Spanish dish authentic! When I talk of "ingredient" I mean a fish that was caught yesterday off the coast of Spain or a Mussel from Italy. You can find this in NYC.

I doubt that those ingredients are found in regular places to eat. Maybe at Per Se or Nobu or Jean Georges. In that case, The French Laundry, Gary Danko and Boulevard probably have the same access to ingredients from around the world-although our ingredients are to fresh and so high quality, we don't need to depend on airplanes.

As far as regular food--our budget restaurants have access to high quality ingredients that NY budget restaurants dont because of price.
