Hey everyone,

It is very possible I will be taking a job in the SF, and if so, I would look to move into the city. I am looking for information on a few districts I have been told about, and was wondering if anyone has information on them. In particular, I am looking for how nice a neighborhood it is, how safe it is, if there are other young professionals there, any trendy nightspots in the area, what the weather is like (im told SF has lots of microclimates). The areas I am looking for info on are: North Beach, South Beach, South of Market, Mission Bay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Welcome to SF. I hope you brought your wallet!
You'll find the City beautiful, but housing is expensive.
Ok, neighborhoods, there are so many to choose from, it really depends on what you're looking for. Most housing in SF are single family that are built right next to each other. I guess you've seen that. That being said the City could be divided weather wise along twin peaks. West of the peaks will tend to be foggy especially closer you get to the ocean, and mostly in summer. East of the peaks has the best weather. Then there are the microclimates, you just have to sense them out. I've lived there all my life and never been robbed, or had my house broken into.
Neighborhood wise, it's a known fact that you could be in a sketchy area, then walk two blocks to a nicer street. SF is like that. For the most part, most of the crime is centered around the Tenderloin, and the public housing uinits. Yes there is crime, but most is gang/terratorial and as long as you're not in those areas, you shouldnt have a problem.
I'm one of those parents that wanted to raise my kids in the City, because of all of the cultural diversity. Most of what others want to avoid. SF is a place where you can get on a bus, and hear 5-6 different lanugages, and go to dinner in just about any 'country' in the world. I loved it.
My family has been in the City for over 100 years. I just left because of a job opportunity/promotion.
Let me know how you like it.
