Ok, I've gotten in this habit I thought some in this thread would find interesting. I keep hearing this New York song on the radio by JayZ and Alicia Keys, entitled "Empire State of Mind," and now whenever I hear it, I tend to sing the "chorus" or "hook" with a twist that I personally prefer-

San Francisco, bayside city where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do

San Francisco, these streets will make you feel brand new, these sights will inspire you

Let's hear it for Frisco, Frisco, Friscooooo!!!!!!

Anyway, where better than this thread to admit such a thing! I would choose to call it Golden Gate State of Mind!

I'd listen to it, haha. What about the verses though? Jay-Z does some pretty cool stuff lyrically - all the name dropping of neighborhoods, streets, hangouts, landmarks, etc. Let's hear the rest, Manta!

Yeah, I think it would take me a LOT longer to come up with the kind of rhymes JayZ put on that song. I guess that's why he gets the big bucks! LOL

How about this-

Welcome to the city where the fun will never wait
Not even for our peeps we always see inside the Haight.

Gold rush, don't hush, big bucks, holler shout
Market Street, where we meet and where we pull our dollars out

There's beautiful hills in the brilliant
city, not so gritty, and the weather yeah I'm feelin it

Union Square, Nob Hill, Chinatown, really though
We roll across the Golden Gate right into the Presidio

We playin every day in-side these towns across these bays
with 49er gear in here we're checking for the A's. (Feel me?)

See how easy that was. Jay-Z's lyrics are anything but complex or intellectually challenging. He's basically running down a list of places he used to hang out. He is a smart business man though, as he knows that people love nothing better than to reminisce about "back in the day" or to be able to fake like they know NYC from back in the day because they've memorized the lyrics to this song. Put it to a basic beat with a strong hook, throw in fancy and outrageously expensive clothes and cars, and you've got a hit.
