Just hoping to get some friendly information. I'm going to be visiting San Francisco on the 30th and I want to know whats going on in San Fran for New Years Eve? What are some good places to go to ring in the New Year and on New Years night?

I'm usually into the urban/hip hop scene, but fun is fun so I'm open to whatever.

There are large organized events that are expensive and generally require advanced purchase of tickets.

I tend to avoid those. Most New Year's Eves I will hit a nice neighborhood bar or a non mainstream smaller club. Check out SFBay Guardian and other local papers on line.

Anyone going to those expensive parties?

I was thinking of doing it just to see what it's like but... $100-$200, still crazy.

Expensive parties? Do they at least have celebs and stuff there or are they just expensive for no reason?

I used to go to the Embarcadero and catch the fireworks on New Years Eve. I do not know if they still do that however. That was always a pretty large and sometimes rowdy crowd.

I checked it out and it does still go on because its happening this year. The fact that its free has already piqued my interest. Good info.

And this is in a depressionary year. 3 or more years ago, clubs were charging $125+ per person. It all depends on what you are looking for. NYE in general (regardless of where you are) tends to be over priced. I like the previously mentioned idea of finding a local bar.
