Probably both. ::Sigh::

It was a small dive off Broadway and in the same part of town as the Mabuhay.

Earl's was fairly popular for a short time and a good place to meet the ladies (not that I had much luck mind you...)

Default Stumbling around

Wow! This sure brings back some awesome memories. I found this site by stumbling around on the internet looking for info. on the Old Waldorf in San Francisco, where I saw Santana in the early 70's. What a great venue to see such a fantastic band! It seemed like everyone was close enough to see all the details, truly an intimate venue as I recall, and for 2 bucks extra you got the spaghetti, garlic bread and salad dinner! Other memorable San Francisco shows include:

- The ZOMBIES; Fillmore West, early 70's

- BLACK SABBATH (opening band was a new band called YES- !!!) Winterland, early 70's

- LED ZEPPELIN; Kezar Stadium, 1974

and although this wasn't in San Francisco, honorable mention goes to one of my all time favorite bands TOWER OF POWER, who I first saw at my high school and continue to see these days whenever they're around- still go'n strong 40 years later!

The current Waldorf isn't the same as The Old Waldorf right?

Anyway, thanks for the memories, or as we used to say, 'mammories'

I caught the end of that gig.

I was about 12 and a few of my friends got inside from a side gate while people were leaving.

OMG---Holy City Zoo!! I totally forgot about this place! I remember seeing some band (or was it a stand up comedian?) at some time here, but alas...too much other fun and trouble going on.

I'm sure it was a comedian, clongirl. Maybe Robin Williams? It's where he got his start.

A band would have literally blown the roof off the place! It was miniscule and cave-like, truly one of a kind... If S.F. had it's own Smithsonian, a replica of the Holy City Zoo would be a must.

There was a wonderful New Wave City last weekend. The theme was "I Beam Reunion."

It went clear back into the "Le Disque" era.

Tunes spanned from 1977 - early 90s and included substantial amounts of the sorts of semi obscure post punk they used to play on KUSF, KALX and KFJC back in the day. I didn't even know the names of many of them but recognized the tunes from somewhere way in there in my foggy ancient brain cells.
