I've tried finding the frost dates, but I either get conflicting info, or info for other cites but I have no idea what I should compare Pleasanton to since I'm still a newbie here. Can someone tell me what the frost dates are here? Thanks!

Well...this winter I remember getting the info from the local evening news (there were only 3 days specifically since I had to throw some blankets over a few plants and bring in my citrus)..

I guess it's not that terribly common to get those hard damaging frosts like you would in other regions...for the most part, the plants tend to make it!

Yeah, I grew up in Walnut Creek where my parents still live, and I'd say Pleasanton gets a bit colder at night than their neighborhood, based on what I've seen over the years. So I'd say you're probably pretty safe with mid-to late March. It all depends on what you're planting though. This is only important for getting your tropicals started. You can plant almost anything all year long, since most plants are frost-hardy, and even as it is, we don't get frost often or consistently due to the rainy season falling during the winter months. My parents get some frost and have a ton of citrus trees and tall palm trees in the ground that obviously can't be moved or covered, and they never have a scratch on them. For the most part, it's not worth worrying too much about frost or unnecessarily coddling plants that don't need it.

What are you looking to plant BTW?
