Of course, I am speaking about the word 'hella'.

I've noticed lately that more and more of my friends in SoCal are starting to say the word more and more. You would think it may have something to do with living with college students (after all, most CA schools are half NorCal/half SoCal), but I notice it more and more amongst people my age! When I was living up there, I had always prided myself in not partaking in that slang. Even my friend in NJ is starting to say the word.

Looks like I can't escape the Bay Area, no matter where I go! ARRGH!!
(Not meant to be a serious thread, but thought it was a good observation over the last two years or so)

I remember back in college (UCSD) my freshman year roomate born and raised in the San Fernando Valley started saying "hella" and smoking weed mainly b/c of his NorCal roomate (me), haha.

It is spreading. I have a friend from Denver who says it. A couple of my friends from the Chicago area are saying it too now.

I'm hella bout to go get drunk now and cry over the future day when hella people not from NorCal will be saying hella.

I must be getting old...I still remember when the word "bad" was cool, good looking boys/girls were "fine" and we were "audi 5000" when we had to be somewhere else..lol

I even remember when my little step sister started saying "hella" about 12yrs ago. I thought it sounded very strange and irritating. I still don't get it!

LOL..maybe their mother's told them to change it to something more decent sounding.

I've told my little ones to say "crab" instead of "cra*" I just thought it sounded better and it's "hella" funny to hear them actually using it! So if you ever hear some 4yr old yelling "I can't believe this crab!"..well that would be my kid
