Oakland, Calif. (March 17, 2010) – The Port of Oakland announced today that Terminal 2 at Oakland International Airport (OAK) has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. OAK received Silver recognition for its environmental leadership in extending and renovating Terminal 2, the first airport passenger terminal in the U.S. to receive the “Silver” level of this prestigious award.

Port of Oakland/Oakland International Airport
The Port of Oakland oversees the Oakland seaport, Oakland International Airport and 20 miles of waterfront. The Oakland seaport is the fifth busiest container port in the U.S.; Oakland International Airport is the second largest San Francisco Bay Area airport and fourth largest airport in California, offering over 140 daily flights; and the Port’s real estate includes commercial developments such as Jack London Square and hundreds of acres of public parks and conservation areas. Pretty nice airport. my friend lives in the city and prefers Oak to SFO. Good food too.

Great airport to fly from. Airlines however are reducing flights from here and it is sometimes difficult to get great arrival and departure times. Also for some reason flights are more expensive than SFO. It is amazing how convenience and the positive experience of this airport can be hampered by the airline industry.
