Does anyone know why the Woodstock area is cheaper than other areas on the island. I see some cute townhouses 2B, 1B that are quite affordable, but if I look at the same sq ft condo in other areas, it's much more. I know the area is co-op. I could use any information you have as I am looking at a place now and I live in AZ. What is the down side of living in that area. It looks safe.
Thanks for all your help. Barbara

Home prices are directly tied to the quality of local public schools. Young families with small kids are the top home buying market and are the one's who generally set prices. While Alameda has safer schools than much of the Bay Area, from what I've been told by other parents (and I know I'm just repeating hearsay), Woodstock elementary is somewhat lacking.

Other than that bit of hearsay, Alameda is a pretty safe town. The fact that's it's an Island with few avenues of egress for criminals and it has a very visible police presence (not in a bad way), it's a pretty nice place.

Edit: If you choose Alameda, take the posted speed limits, 25 mph through most of the city, seriously because the police certainly do.

Now that makes sense....I don't have school children, so I didn't think of that. Thanks you for the information.
