To be honest, I know for sure that S.F. does not have an inflated ego. It is a significant and vital city by any account as well as deserving all the attention it garners from both domestic and the international arena.

Manhattan is no SF. Both cities are among the great. Different, but great.

You are right; S.F. is certainly no Manhattan. All that I was trying to imply from the illustrative concept I gave is that a city doesn't have to be big for it to be important or relevant but I wasn't trying to indicate that S.F. was equal to Manhattan. Although S.F. is not in the same level as Manhattan, it's still a city of major significance. That's what I'm saying.

Nobody outside the Bay Area really cares about SF unless they're talking about Rice-a-roni, gay people, or Joe Montana/Jerry Rice.

To think that SF is world renowned is simply delusional.

Philadelphians understand that no one outside of philly cares about philly(generally speaking), but at least we know that, and or okay with it.

Population and geographic size does matter, Its not the only factor, but it matters.

Don't get me wrong, SF is definitely a top 10 city in America, and arguably a top five city

Okay, I'll give you that since you do have a few valid points except for the part about S.F. not being known worldwide and the population + geographic size argument from what I understand. S.F. is well liked by many people across the globe whether you like it or not. I know that size and population do matter but it is not the most important factor for sure.

You are exactly right about Philly, but not San Francisco.
San Francisco is one of a handful of US cities that is in fact world renowned. NYC and San Francisco are generally the most popular and beloved urban destinations in the United States, for different reasons of course. They happen to be the two densest and most vibrant cities in America.

San Francisco has a more distinct image in the world than Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington etc.

I know that must sting...that your opinion is totally out of touch with reality.

Thanks for clarifying the information. It is so much better to discuss facts rather than mere opinion. As you point out, there are only 3 American cities that are considered top destinations for non-Americans [2 are in California]. When in San Francisco one is immediately aware of how many Asian and European visitors are there.
