Hey everyone!

I'm headed up to Clear Lake State Park on Memorial Day weekend and wanted to know the best possible directions from the East Bay.

I remember going here years ago, going up 101 and passing through some really windy mountains. If I instead, take 29 through Napa, will I bypass these mountains? How do the routes compare in time?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

BUMP!!

I looked at google maps and I see that CA-29 also has its fair amount of windy roads going through Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.

So it's really trying to find out the route which is less worse. Windy highway 29 through the state park or windy hwy 175-Hopland Rd.

It says taking 101 or 29 will be just about the same time (2 hours and 48 minutes), but that CA-29 is 10 miles less. Does that mean 29 will be more windy?

Any input would be great.

Less worse? 175 between Hopland and Clear Lake is really windy. If you love windy roads they don't get much windy-er than that part of 175.

Going thru the Napa Valley to Kelseyville via 29 is far more scenic and relaxing than 101. Stop in Calistoga for lunch. If you take the 175 cutoff that passes thru Cobb you feel like you are in the lower elevations of the Sierras.

For me 29 is the clear choice.

Thanks for the post!

Yeah I personally haven't been through the 29 all the way up, but I did go through 101 and 175 the last time I went to Clear Lake, and wasn't a fan of the drive. Now this trip, my pregnant cousin is coming and I'll be pulling my travel trailer, so I'm trying to make this drive as easy as possible.

Thanks for clearing things up. I just googled the directions and google maps made the road going through Robert Louis Stevenson SP look really windy and twisted

Kudos!
