Hello!
My husband, our newborn and I are moving to a rented house in Kensington, Berkeley, north of Arlington by Purdue Avenue. The house is great but we are a bit worried about the area. It seems far to shop and restaurants and not very walkable, or? Can one run/walk around there or is it all narrow, steep roads? Is it possible to walk to any grocery store or any restaurant?
How about the neighbors - is it difficult to make friends? We know no one in the area. Are there parks we can go to with our baby and meet other parents? What is the typical age of people living there? Lots of kids? Is it posh or friendly? Do neighbors invite one another over for drinks and stuff or do they tend to stick to themselves?

I would appreciate any info!

Thank you!

I don't know much about your specific area, but check out the Berkeley Parents Network. Its a HUGE resource for people living in the Berkeley/Albany/El Cerrito/Oakland areas (which would emcompass Kensington). Do a search and you're sure to find it.

Just out of curiosity, how did you decide on Kensington?

Thanks for the tip!

We used Craigslist and went for the best house for the money in the general east bay area.
