Please don't bother listening to people who don't live or have never lived in a town they're trashing... I lived in Oakland and still would except I couldn't buy a house there. Now I'm in Vallejo. Oakland is great! There's all kinds of fun and interesting things happening. Super neighborhoods with really good restaurants. Great public transportation. Very vibrant. I still spend time there with friends. It's a great place to be/live/visit. I love Oakland!

Oakland school system has jobs and some wonderful schools as well. There is some dedicated teachers and students who are motivated to learn. If you want to teach come to Oakland.

I wonder what Mr. Fantastic would have to say to all the Palo Alto residents who live in multi-million dollar houses off University Ave...I mean they're literally five minutes away from the East Palo Alto border. What would he say to people in Atherton who live next to dumpier sections of Redwood City? I'm also thinking that maybe people on the west side of Menlo Park may want to move away as well. I mean, the eastern edge of Menlo Park near the Bay is pretty sketchy. The nicest parts of Oakland are farther from the crime-ridden areas of Oakland than some other Bay Area cities are from each other.
Mr. Fantastic is so completely obsessesed with Oakland-bashing, yet he's completely clueless about Bay Area geography and how far some good places are from some bad places here.

...And I'll go ahead and beat Mr. Fantastic to the punch. Anytime somebody calls him out and intelligently refutes his statements and points out his errors, he gets all flustered and worked up and will have some sort of asinine, insulting thing to say. Heaven forbid somebody prove his points wrong...again. Fire away, Mr. Fantastic.

I'm thinking maybe we should all start trolling the threads about Mission Viejo.

I love Oakland, the good and bad of it. It is what it is. but I certainly wouldn't be interested in substitute teaching in the Iron Triangle of Richmond, Ca. for instance. My good friend is a first grade teacher over there, she loves those kids, but the area is full on dive under the desks war zone sometimes.

Oakland is very vibrant, humungous, and downright cool. Ignore the Mr. Fartastic alltogether.

We'll be banned in a heartbeat if we did that. I've been banned for no reason on other forums with no explanation. This forum is normal, it's the other state forums with power hungry moderators that will ban you with no hesitation.

It's well known by most respected scholars that geographic proximity to crime isn't the catalyst for social decay. The real catalyst is when there is no diffusion of wealth.

Oakland is the poster child for wealthy white people separating themselves from poor black people.

Yeah, we could make fun of Mission Viejo's sky high median income, and safest city in the U.S rankings. That would be hilarious.

You know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of what you speak of... seriously. Oakland has one of the largest middle class populations in the country for a city of its size. And contrary to your beliefs, there are quite a few white people living in the Oakland flatlands, and particularly in areas like Fruitvale and parts of West Oakland. You likely also don't know that a large portion of east oakland is middle class; east oakland isn't one giant impoverished plot of land.

Face it... you don't know what you're talking about. Stop trying.
