San Francisco is probably the most beautiful city in America. Most surveys show that. That said, did you look at all of this pictures on this thread? There are a lot of parts of Oakland that look darned nice.

Imo, SF is the most beautiful on the planet period.

How come you only see the "picturesque areas" of SF displayed in pictures?

What is your point? Nobody was comparing the two.

And it may surprise you, but some people do in fact prefer Oakland to SF for just as valid reasons as you prefer SF to Oakland. Does that mean people think that Oakland is a greater city than SF? No. However, Oakland definitely stands on its own two, and there's a lot to like about it.

Oakland has very high crime.
