Joe Torry started the show with a few laughs..not as funny as his brother but comedy at a concert just works
Jill Scott came on and warmed things up nicely. It was a trip seeing her after watchin' her act so subdued in that movie with Ms. Jackson the other week. As she sang the speakers got louder and started to distort..seemed like the band kept playing over each other so they kept raising the volume. Max came on and wet the crowd
he had his original band with him and a sexy singer from LA...they sounded tight and well rehearsed. What set me back was he played all his songs in a faster tempo. More than likely he did this to cover some ground, but it killed the vibe of his band imo. His band is made up of great studio musicians and there just wasn't enough space in the music for them to shine. Also the sound kept going up and was distorted most of the time
Overall it was a good show but the sound engineers were sleepin' on the mixer! Oh and guys from the Union St festival thread...make sure you make it to the next Maxwell concert if you want to appreciate female booty I mean beauty

Jill Scott came on and warmed things up nicely. It was a trip seeing her after watchin' her act so subdued in that movie with Ms. Jackson the other week. As she sang the speakers got louder and started to distort..seemed like the band kept playing over each other so they kept raising the volume. Max came on and wet the crowd
he had his original band with him and a sexy singer from LA...they sounded tight and well rehearsed. What set me back was he played all his songs in a faster tempo. More than likely he did this to cover some ground, but it killed the vibe of his band imo. His band is made up of great studio musicians and there just wasn't enough space in the music for them to shine. Also the sound kept going up and was distorted most of the time
Overall it was a good show but the sound engineers were sleepin' on the mixer! Oh and guys from the Union St festival thread...make sure you make it to the next Maxwell concert if you want to appreciate female booty I mean beauty
