I can't remember the last time a notable company moved out of Oakland to another Bay Area city.

Affordable housing isn't going to help area businesses much, but it's better than neglected buildings.

Um, people of all income levels go to the drugstore, grocery store, CVS, etc. Also people who walk/transit/bike make more frequent trips to stores than their driving counterparts.

They may not be going to Plum, but the residents will be patronizing neighborhood businesses.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

The per-resident spending is significantly lower. That's just a fact. And Plum is what is spurring the evolution of downtown Oakland, not CVS. I have nothing against low-income residents, but downtown Oakland isn't exactly lacking in that department.

DTO is lacking in sufficient density for a full service grocery store. And we are also lacking in "affordable" housing. I am all for infill development at a variety of price points. We do need to prioritize creating housing for middle income people in walkable areas too.

We're getting a lot of non profits like UC Press, but not a lot of big companies. Boom times west and south bay but not here - http://www.mercurynews.com/business/...m-track-record

"Affordable" housing doesn't bring in middle income families. Middle income in the Bay Area would be a dual-income family making $70k-$110k a year. These families move to Alameda and Albany because Oakland's schools suck, and that's not going to change anytime soon. So, the only people you have moving to DTO are young, upper-middle income or low-income. Even with a few newer developments, DTO still has the lowest median income in the city, lower even than West or East Oakland. Much of it hovers right around $20k per household. Why anyone would think DTO is severely lacking in low-income housing is beyond me.
