Even though I will never go there, this is a great thing. Another McDonalds in an impoverished area is not a good thing, however.

It's amazing how quickly it's changing. I remember two years ago looking at a condo in that newish building at 24th and Telegraph - it was super cheap, likely because of the crowd that loitered on the corner there, which would be intimidating to anyone. Now there's a fancy beer bar/bottle shop going in that space (https://www.facebook.com/TheGoodHop). Gentrification FTW in this case.

I know someone who scored a deal on those condos (a non-profit worker)! I thought they were overpriced when they first opened -- they were like $300k when they opened. But she got it for the right price and can reap the benefits of appreciation.

I didn't hear about the new beer shop, but I am happy that area is improving. It was so desolate 10 years ago.

I will probably go to this Foods Co. and shopping center just to check it out. The article doesn't mention that Anna's Linens, Wells Fargo, Rainbow Apparel and a few others are also new tenants to the center (along with Ross Dress for Less and McDonald's).

Foods Co. was supposed to build another supermarket in East Oakland at the corner of San Leandro Blvd. and 66th Avenue. I haven't read anything about that project since 2011 or earlier. Anybody know what happened?
