Too bad I cant rep ya Stephen.

That's a great find. I am very excited at what's already happened down in the Uptown area. Imagine when these projects all come to fruition.

* Emeryville's Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe, which is co-owned by Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, will be opening up their second location in the long-vacant corner space next to the Fox Theater. They'll bring a diner-style, comfort food menu and possible full bar sometime in mid-2011.
Cool...I really like this place, I've been a couple times. VERY good pancakes, and I'm picky about pancakes. I had a burger there once which was really good too. The E-Ville location I think is closer to me but downtown Oakland is a lot easier to bike or walk around compared with the middle of industrial E-Ville.

Oakland Museum enters new phase of major construction project

The Oakland Museum of California got approval from the City Council last week to spend almost $7 million in a new contract to enter the next phase of its massive renovation project -- though it won't cost the city anything.
The museum raised the money from private donors to help fund its ongoing, $63-million capital improvement project, Executive Director Lori Fogarty said Thursday. The Council still has to approve of contracts because of how the project was initially funded, she said, but it should have no real economic impact on the city while it's in progress.

This is exactly the direction Oakland's arts district should be headed in. I love it.

Oakland's 25th Street Collective wants to fuel economy with eco-fashion and food

OAKLAND -- During February's First Friday, crowds of people filed in and out of a converted warehouse on 25th Street, unaware for the most part that they were standing in the midst of an economic experiment in the making.

The experiment is called the 25th Street Collective and the founders want to take the "do-it-yourself" verve of Oakland entrepreneurs to the next level by helping startups grow into sturdy, sustainable businesses.
Their laboratory is the 6,000-square-foot Uptown District warehouse, divided by plywood shelves into work spaces for designers such as founding member Hiroko Kurihara. Her shawls sell for upward of $300 at the de Young Museum and several San Francisco boutiques.

Another member is Dustin Page, who makes custom leather jackets from the upholstery of vintage automobiles such as Cadillacs and BMWs. The "VIN jackets" come with the car's vehicle identification number and use the hood ornament as the zipper pull.

"She is really surprising me with her support of big projects. Just what we needed." - 18Montclair

My sentiments exactly...

"Growth at the Port of Oakland is slowly rebounding from the prolonged recession, but unlike other cities that are struggling to attract new business, Oakland's port may have an ace up its sleeve: Mayor Jean Quan."

"She's traveling to China next month with port Executive Director Omar Benjamin, a visit that likely bodes well for attracting more business to Oakland and its port, the fifth-busiest in the country"

"Quan vowed during Thursday's sold-out State of the Port breakfast to do all she can to educate companies about the value of directing their goods through the Port of Oakland. She said the investment in Oakland Army Base development will provide jobs and an economic engine for the region well into the next century."

"Container traffic is up 14 percent over last year, nearly matching pre-recession levels, Benjamin said, and the port's export volume was the second-highest in its history."

"BART broke ground on a new passenger connector to the Oakland airport, and Hawaiian Airlines moved its service to Oakland."

The Oakland Heritage Alliance needs to be put in their place once and for all. They are so hypocritical and act like they are THE authority on what is and what is not acceptable as far as development in Oakland.

Quote:

The Oakland Heritage Alliance is making a last stand in its fight against a project that will redevelop land along an estuary south of Jack London Square. The drama nearly ended in September with the state's approval of the project, but OHA continues the battle to save one of the area's historic structures.

The Oak to Ninth project, as it is known, has been a subject of controversy in Oakland for the past ten years. The project would redevelop 64 acres of land, creating new parks, commercial areas and 3,100 condominiums. Now, the preservationists at OHA worry most about the fate of the Ninth Avenue Terminal.

They are fighting to save this...
