Being a GINORMOUS Target stan, I went last night. It was very crowded-parking lot was packed. The line queue is totally different than previous Targets--they queue you into A-F shoots and they have monitors that alert you when the next register is open within your shoot area. Each register is a short one, more akin to the Trader Joes model--you keep your items in your cart and they remove them. Store is laid out a bit differently, but then nearly every Target store has a different layout, so...I didn't get to explore the entire store, but will do so later.

The San Leandro store is still more convenient for me, but I'll support Oakland by coming here when I drive into work.

It was super busy on Saturday. Lots of confusion at the checkouts. Nice layout, and it was definitely designed to maximize impulse buys.

Im looking forward to this one...Oakland may have its second Michelin-star rated restaurant in the wings.

And this one looks like it will be more casual pricewise too.

GQ's burger of the year coming to oakland

Umami Burger’s Cow Hollow Location Up In Air, And Now They’re Going to Oakland Too

"....In further news, Eater gets the scoop that Fleischman's also in negotiations for an Oakland branch as well — exact location TBA, but if he's smart (which he is) it'll probably be either Grand Lake, Temescal, or, more likely, Uptown near the Fox and a couple of upcoming new bars. Planned opening time frame for both the S.F. and Oakland branches: summer 2011.
Do note that this isn't just any old burger chain; GQ named their signature burger "Burger of the Year" last year. "

We are getting all of the "cool" new places.

I noticed the other day that Sparky's on Piedmont Ave is finally open.

Whoa...another star-chef coming to Oakland?

Daniel Patterson is a Michelin-rated chef as well. Coi is one of the best restaurants in the whole Bay Area and now he's looking across the Bay

Quote:
Birthday presents: Daniel Patterson and his team at Coi (373 Broadway) will ring in the restaurant's fifth anniversary in April, and to commemorate the occasion, there will be some changes at the four-star spot. Along with aesthetic tweaks to the entryway, Patterson will revamp the front lounge, turning it into a second dining room. The current a la carte lounge menu will be abandoned, meaning that the restaurant will serve only one option: the 11-course tasting menu ($145).

As noted by chef de cuisine Evan Rich, the tasting menu allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the progression of the meal, and lounge-goers didn't get that same experience. Think of it as a complete narrative, adds new general manager Ryan Curran, freshly imported from Eleven Madison Park in New York.

That's not the only thing at work in the Patterson universe. He's also in the design phase for a research laboratory in Oakland. The culinary lab will be a place to catalog wild foods and develop techniques - basically jobs outside the everyday functioning of a restaurant

Hopefully that will translate to a Oakland eatery.
