The Land is already owned by the city and ready for development. Thats the appeal of building near hegenberger.

It also happens to be a very accessible site for mass transit.

But it's also aesthetically unappealing, and nowhere near places where people work, east and/or play....which would reverse the trend of all other ballparks built in the past 20 years. There would be nowhere for people to hang out before and after the game, which is a huge drawback in an area where sports teams don't have much die-hard followings in the first place.

i agee with this. A stadum could help revitalize the busnesses in the jack london square area where people could dine or drink before and after the games.
Maybe the "B" could be used to beef up the mass transport issues.

Jack London Square isnt revitalized because of the port, which owns the square, and they are overpricing the rents for retail and restaurants. When the square was doing well it had lots of family style places to eat, they gutted it to bring in high price retail and restaurants and its been slow going ever sense. The market hall was a great idea but then they priced themselves out for what they were trying to do. They can fill the office space, but thats about it.

Oakland-based Cost Plus World Market has been bought out by Bed Bath and Beyond for $495 million. As late as early 2010, CPWM's stock was $1/share. Investors will get $22/share from the buy out.

Off the top of my head Clorox, Pandora and Scientific Learning are the only Oakland-based publicly traded companies. In the 1990s Oakland was home to a plethora of large public companies: Clorox, Golden West Financial (bought by Wachovia), American President Lines (bought by Neptune Orient Lines), Dreyer's (bought by Nestle), Safeway (moved to Pleasanton). Clorox is the only big one remaining.

Hopefully Sungevity and Bright Source Energy continue to grow.

Yes, Oakland is the birthplace of several big corporate names.

Also, Kaiser Permanente(not a public company) would be in the same tier as Walt Disney and Coca Cola if it were publically traded.

Angela Woodall's piece in the Tribune this morning talks about how the Jack London Market Hall has struggled to obtain tenants. However, she does mention that the owner of Chop Bar will be opening a restaurant inside the bottom floor of the Tribune building. A restaurant called "Camber" will open up at 1540 Broadway and a new bar called "Feezy" is slated for 1707 Telegraph.

According to Diablo Magazine, an Ethiopian Coffee House (called Anfilo) will be coming to Grand Avenue (in fact next to Farley's East).
