1800 San Pablo is back...the project is an item on the agenda for the Aug 1 meeting of the planning commission.

Here's the pdf about the project:

Hopefully this is a precursor of more development to come.

What started as a food blog in 2007 is now a brick-and-mortar retail shop in Oakland.

Umami Mart opens in Old Oakland next week, and for those unaware, it will specialize in Japanese kitchen tools, barware, cocktail gear and coffee/tea accessories. It’s the first brick-and-mortar shop for owners Yoko Kumano and Kayoko Akabori, who have been running an online store — not to mention a food blog with global contributors. Danish art director Anders Arhoøj designed the space, and the Umami Mart ladies describe the look as “a mixture of Scandinavian modernism and Shinto classicism.”
The grand opening is slated for Friday, August 3.

after looking taking a closer look at coliseum city i realized that if the plan does not fail at attracting tech firms it could start a ripple effect throughout east oakland turning it into a major tech hub like some kind of copy paste version of san jose lol seems cool although i always thought east oakland would end up being a breezy urban-suburban clashed area with lots of town houses and some low condo towers ohh well you never know what may come out of a investers top hat

This is the Food Craft Institute. In its first year, this vibrant Oakland-based organization has already made a big splash in the local food world, taking over the popular Eat Real Festival and attracting scores of local and nationally-known food artisans and celebrities to take part in its classes and activities.

A non-profit organization, the Food Craft Institute's focus is on education and support for food professionals and enthusiasts, particularly local people trying to start or grow their artisan food businesses. The Institute's first master class, a 14-week program in "Jams, Marmalades, and Chutneys," took twelve students on an intense journey through every aspect of jam-making. Its second program, "Pickles, Krauts, and Ferments," has just begun and promises to do the same for those who want to build their lives around bubbling vats of good bacteria and barrels of brine...

Default The Shops at Uptown

Check out this new project on the table for the Broadway Valdez area:

The EIR is getting started, and public input is due this week. Also there is a meeting on Wednesday about this project:

The weird thing? It is a shopping center with Sprouts. It is sort of like a Whole Foods. Anyway, does that area really need another grocery store? I hope it fits in with the area, and retains some walk-ability. But it beats all those parking lots.
