Another proposal for the lot on 19th and Broadway (1938 Broadway). There was a proposal five years ago for a 55-story skyscraper to be called Encinal Towers. This new proposal seems more realistic.

Here's a travel piece on Oakland from Canada's national newspaper The Globe and Daily Mail. It calls Oakland the "Brooklyn of the West."

I'm loving any positive press on Oakland, but I wish people would stop comparing it to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn is HUGE. Oakland isn't. Yeah, they both are connected to more expensive areas via a bridge, but they're really, really different.

I agree whole heartily with you. Oakland and Brooklyn are vastly different cities. In the first since that Oakland is actually a separate city from its more prestigious neighbor and basically NEVER benefits from the successes of that city. Brooklyn is a part of the larger New York city so positives in Manhattan become positives in Brooklyn. I mean the city of New York adding more cops to combat crime means Brooklyn gets more cops, if San Francisco adds me cops Oakland gets nothing. Huge difference. I really just don't like the comparison. I dot understand why they just cant let Oakland be its own city we don't need an east cost comparison.
