Two new Oakland restaurant openings to look forward to in the coming months (both Downtown):

Township 1545 Broadway (Isn't this the Cathedral Building?)
The Cook and Her Farmer 905 Clay (Inside Swan's Marketplace)

Township will use organic ingredients grown on urban farms in Oakland. Swan's is becoming a destination with Cosecha, Miss Ollie's, Rosamunde and now The Cook and Her Farmer.

Maybe there is hope for the A's Ballpark funding.

I was just reading the article on Chris Pastena, I am sure someone already posted it:
Inside Scoop SF » Interview: Chris Pastena, Oakland’s insta-empire-builder

And all of those 12 thousand new restaurants he is working on are funded via EB-5 investments. Basically a vehicle for foreign investors to invest in areas wih higher than average unemployment. Lungomare is one of the projects funded by this program.

And here are some deets:
Oakland Pursues EB-5 Funding for A's Ballpark, Waterfront Development

Apparently the new Brooklyn Nets Arena used this method to get funding as well. So maybe Jean Quan isn't BSing, as it looks like there are new projects large and small using this process.

And here is an older article on the process:

The downtown housing market is white hot.

Quote:
The Ellington, a luxury highrise building in Jack London Square, is down to its last unit of the 134 it started out with in 2009. In the last six months, five units sold for more than $1 million.

Within the past year, other condo projects such as the 162-unit Pacific Cannery Lofts, the 88-unit Uptown Place, and 157-unit Eight Orchids sold out or are within a couple of units of selling out.

Broadway Grand is on sale now, and there is a Phase 2 planned too.

Nope. Only building is the one on the Emeryville border next to 580 but I think that's apartments. Broadway Grand phase 2 is supposed to start soon, but I believe that'll be apartments as well. Hard to believe with 25% 2 year increases in average rents the market can stay frozen for much longer. I guess everyone is building in SF now. I don't know what builders are waiting on
