My perception has long been that the Silicon Valley is more of a coffee shop/cafe culture. There seems to be a Starbucks on every corner, that's for sure. I think it's more consistent with the tech culture here which seems be unintentionally geeky and tries to be sophisticated.

If you need to get drunk, though, there's at least a Katie Bloom's and Mission (m)Ale house in downtown SJ, Boswell's and Rock Bottom Brewery in the Pruneyard, Campbell and another Katie Bloom's (I think) in downtown Campbell, on Campbell Ave.

Also, a lot of the bars you'll find in he SV are imbedded in restaurants, e.g. Sonoma Chicken Coop, Chili's, Olive Garden..

That should get you started.

Thanks for the responses. I hope I didn't come off as some alcoholic. It's just that sometimes on a boring Friday or Saturday night, you just want to go and get a drink with some friends and not have to drive 45 minutes to do this.

A regular crowd fills RBB on Wednesdays for $5.00 growlers and $5.00 appetizers. Somewhat of a South Bay secret - people seem to come from all over the place every week for this. Some b/c dogs are welcome on the patio, as is smoking on one end.
