BART has been in operation for almost 39 years. Why aren't they running 24/7 by now?

1) how long would my morning car drive be ? What time would I need to leave from Santa Clara in the morning in order to reach SF financial center at 5:00 am ?
Well, good news is you can commute without worrying at all about traffic. at 5am, you'll be in downtown SF in about 40 minutes.

3) Does car-pooling make sense or am I the only crazy person going to be on the road at that time in the morning ?
I don't think there's gonna be anybody else carpooling at that time.
