I may be relocating to the Bay area for a job that is in Menlo Park. The cost of living is insane compared to where I am now. Where are some reasonably priced areas to look for houses? It is me, my husband and 4 year old son.

With all due respect, A) you give us zero information to work with, and B) 90pct of this board is dedicated to answering that specific question.

What's your budget? What type of neighborhood are you looking for? How far are you willing to commute? Your post is too vague to give good suggestions.

Menlo Park is surrounded by relatively affordable areas, but that's only going to mean $2000 instead of $3000+ for rent and you'll sacrifice school quality and safety. I'm talking places like North Fair Oaks, Belle Haven and East Palo Alto. I suggest looking across the bridge in Fremont for a better compromise. If you're working in MP, the chances are good that it'll be right along the Bayfront Expressway, so it should be a relatively easy drive.
