BayAH & Madhaus... Thank you for giving me a clearer view of the area! This is really helpful as I'm not sure the area is going to be what I'm looking for. I'll be happier either returning to San Diego (1st choice) or going further north to either Foster City or the SF Outer Sunset area (for something new).

Thanks again everyone for great info!!

We're enjoying living in CA much more than we did in Colorado, but part of the problem for us in Colorado was being in a small town, which isn't our cup of tea.

Here there's a lot more variety to choose from.

I completely understand.

Thank you everyone. All this info helped in my research. We're leaning more towards returning to San Diego but decided to at least see the SJ area before we settle. We'll drive from Denver to SJ, then down to La Jolla/downtown SD. If we fall in love with SJ, we're prepared to give it a try. Both of us have beach in our blood & have spent only a few years away from an ocean... not sure we could handle being too far inland. It's worth a look at any rate.

Can't wait... we've got 5-1/2 wks left, then it's happily back to sunny CA.

South Bay has really limited waterfront options until you make the drive to Santa Cruz -- Marin County is where all the great waterfront is at!

If you want ocean waterfront, you have to go to where the ocean is. San Jose is an hour or so from the ocean, so there can be no beach front. There is simply no comparison between a bay like the San Francisco Bay, which has only one small passageway from the ocean, 50 miles from San Jose, and an open bay which is just an indentation from the ocean and in essence just part of the ocean.
