I am relocating for a job in Plesanton CA. My son's school will be in Belmont CA. My husbond's job will be in Santa Clera. Where would be a good town to live/rent around these 3 locations that could accommodate our commutes? Is Bemont a good/safe place to live? The commute from Belmont to Plesanton practical? Live in New England currently and New to Caliornia, any advice would be helpful.

Those places are all pretty far away from one another. Belmont to Pleasanton is 40 miles and includes a toll bridge as well as the worst stretch of I-880, and Belmont to Santa Clara is 25 miles in often brutal traffic (or 35 miles on trouble-free I-280). If there's any way to consolidate things on one side of the bay, I would suggest that first. I go up and down the peninsula a lot, but hardly ever need to cross a bridge, and it makes things much easier. Barring that, Foster City, Belmont, and Fremont would be good compromises depending on other factors like budget and the character of the community that you are looking for.

Foster City is a newer, bayside community built on landfill; it's nonetheless considered very desirable, convenient and safe. It has better shopping than Belmont, which is a quiet and older suburban community. Then Fremont is a diverse melting pot with a much lower price tag but equally as quiet and calm as the others.
