I've lived in San Jose most of my life and have witnessed some horrifying accidents on these streets and most major car accidents are reported in the news. But just recently witnessed an accident on the Alameda and Naglee near the YMCA on Wednesday 4/4. The 13 year old was struck on the crosswalk with major injuries and was probably transported to Valley Medical. I haven't seen any news item on this. This reminded me of an accident on Taylor St. and 4th near the San Jose Police Station a few years ago. A man was struck by van and the impact threw his body into the bushes on the side of the street. The police were interviewing the driver but this accident was also never reported in the news. This leads me to suspect that there is a concerted effort to miscommunicate the true % of Pedestrian vs Auto accidents in San Jose. San Jose may not be the safest place for people without vehicles.

If anybody has real data on these accidents in San Jose, I would certainly like to read more about it.

I lived in San Jose for a very long time, and came to know that there was very little local news reported. I sometimes heard gun shots on a daily basis, never read a word about it - one time there was a helicopter shining a search light in my back yard - called the police to find out - nothing - no incident I was ever aware of was ever reported in the newspaper.

The "local" section is a sham. It should contain the police blotter and all local news should be reported, no matter how small the item. Old school papers used to report everything, but corporate papers just report what they feel like reporting.

Oh, and there are no investigative reporters anymore either.

Good luck finding out what happened. They don't want you to know - it would cause too much disruption and would be bad for real estate and jobs.

Injury accidents don't get covered on the news except in really small towns.
There are more important things for the paper to cover, no?

I understand sensational journalism sells more papers or generate revenues from ads, but one of the many concerns of Local news reporting should be the well being of the people of the community: news information that gives us a realistic view of the community we live in. If there is under reporting of Pedestrian vs Auto accidents, this places citizen’s lives in jeopardy as pedestrian’s expectations of the conditions on the street don’t match the reality of driver behavior.
